Breakfast Sandwich
Unlike a bowl of cereal or a plate of pancakes, a breakfast sandwich requires no table, no silverware, and no sit-down time. It is completely hand-held, wrapped in foil or paper, and designed to be eaten on the move.
It is more than just a convenient meal; it is a warm, savory win before the day even fully begins.
My favorites will always have an egg in it with cheese and a breakfast meat of either ham, bacon, or sausage. Yummy to my tummy.
Breakfast Meals
Breakfast meals are the ultimate comfort foods. The flavors of breakfast are so well-loved that they refuse to be contained by a morning time slot. The rise of all-day breakfast diners and the universal joy of "breakfast for dinner" prove that our love for these breakfast foods is about taste, not just the time on the clock.
It’s cheap, easy to whip up, and always hits the spot.
As you will see below I love scrambled eggs. I'll eat any style of eggs but scrambled eggs with cheese mixed in. It's "yum" in every bite.
Cheeseburger Sandwich
The cheeseburger sandwich is more than just a staple of fast-food menus; it is a global culinary icon. From backyard barbecues to high-end bistros.
Humans are hardwired to seek out calorie-dense combinations of fat and protein, and a cheeseburger delivers exactly that in every bite.
In a single bite, you experience; the soft toasted bun, the crisp fresh crunch of lettuce, onions, or pickles, the juicy tender seared meat patty, and the creamy gooey blanket of melted cheese. Cheeseburgers are incredibly satisfying to eat.
I am a big fan of cheeseburgers with bacon. Turkey or pork bacon, it's all yum to me.
Spaghetti and Meatballs
Few dishes evoke a universal sense of comfort quite like a steaming plate of spaghetti and meatballs. It’s a staple of family dinners, church fundraising, and Italian-American restaurants.
We love spaghetti and meatballs because it feels like home. Twirling long spaghetti noodles around a fork and cutting into a juicy meatball makes eating an engaging and fun experience for both children and adults.
Spaghetti and meatballs pair very well with garlic bread or sticks, crusty Italian bread, or a bright & crisp salad.
I always have some kind of bread when eating pasta. I need the bread to mop up all the tasty sauce that is left on the plate when the pasta is all eaten up.
Chicken Wings
There is a reason why chicken wings are the undisputed kings of the appetizer platter. They are great for game-day spreads, late-night cravings, large social gatherings, etc.
Every single bite gives you a high concentration of crispy seasoned skin or crunchy battered skin with juicy tender meat inside. You get the ultimate contrast of crunch and melt-in-your-mouth texture in every mouthful.
As you can see below I do not favor my wings heavily sauced. The seasonings alone and the wings cooked right will deliver all the taste satisfaction your taste buds will ever need.
Bacon, Lettuce, and Tomato sandwich
The Bacon, Lettuce, and Tomato sandwich—universally known as the BLT—is more than just a quick lunch; it is a culinary delight to eat. Despite consisting of only three primary ingredients (plus bread and a swipe of mayo), the BLT remains a perennial favorite because it hits every sensory requirement for the perfect bite.
We love the BLT because it is an honest sandwich. It reminds us that it only takes a few ingredients to create something extraordinary. It is the ultimate comfort food, perfectly capturing the essence of summer on a plate.
I myself love to add some raw sliced or chopped onions on my BLT. A slice of cheese from time to time doesn't hurt either. It is yummy in my tummy time.
Chicken And Waffles
There is magic that happens when a golden crispy fried piece of chicken meets a fluffy, syrup-drenched waffle. It is a dish that defies the boundaries of traditional mealtime logic. It effortlessly straddles the line between savory breakfast and indulgent dinner.
Rooted in the rich culinary history of the American South and popularized in the vibrant jazz clubs of the 1930's Harlem, New York City, chicken and waffles represents a convergence of cultures.
It is unpretentious, hearty, and oh so good. It turns the act of eating into an experience of pure indulgence.
Hot Dog
While food trends come and go, the humble hot dog has remained a favorite for millions. What is it about a hot dog that makes it so universally beloved?
At its core, the hot dog reminds us of childhood summers, family gatherings, and the simple joys of eating with our hands. It doesn't require a knife and fork. It is an informal experience that invites you to relax.
Whether you are a purist who believes in nothing more then squirting a line of yellow mustard on your dog or a maximalist who piles on the chili, cheese, onions, relish, jalapenos, or whatever, the hot dog is completely adaptable to personal taste. It is remarkably affordable, incredibly quick to prepare, and easy to eat on the go.
All-beef franks with a natural casing consistently take the top spot because of their signature "snap" when bitten into and the rich, savory flavor. To really lock in the juices, hot dogs should be cooked in an air fryer, grilled, or pan fried until nice and browned. Boil only as a last resort.
Pizza, Pepperoni or sausage
Pizza is arguably the most widely recognized and enjoyed food on the planet. Its popularity is no accident. Pizza is fundamentally a communal food. It is designed to be shared, sliced, and passed around a table. It is the go-to meal for celebrations, team gatherings, family dinners, holiday gatherings, sports watch parties, or group events like birthday parties or office lunches. When we eat pizza, we are often surrounded by friends, family, or a relaxed environment, associating the taste with comfort and connection.
In a world of constant change, pizza remains a reliable constant. It is warm, familiar, and always evolving, ensuring that it will continue to hold the top spot in our hearts—and our appetites—for generations to come.
Sausage or pepperoni pizza have always been my favorites. Either as is or with added toppings of course. Pizza tastes good when hot, warm, at room temperature, or straight out of the fridge.
Fish and Chips
Think of it, a masterfully fried piece of fish which offers a shattering, light crunch on the outside, which gives way to flaky, succulent, and steaming white fish on the inside. This is balanced by the chips/fries, which provide a hearty, fluffy interior encased in a golden, slightly salty crust.
Half the fun of a classic fish and chip meal is the customization. The ritual of dousing the chips in malt vinegar—which cuts through the richness of the oil—and sprinkling them with a generous pinch of sea salt is essential to the experience. When paired with a side of mushy peas, tartar sauce, or a wedge of lemon, the dish offers a perfect balance of savory, acidic, and creamy flavors.
Fish and chips have survived wars, economic shifts, and the rise and fall of fast-food chains because they represent a piece of heritage.
I love them because they are very yummy.
Italian Sub
At the heart of a great Italian sub is the balance of salty, savory, and zesty flavors. The foundation starts with a high-quality assortment of sliced cured meats—typically a combination of salami, capicola, mortadella, and ham. These meats provide a rich, umami depth that is instantly satisfying.
When you pair those fatty salty meats with the acidic brightness of vinegar, the sharp bite of red onion, and the crunchy freshness of shredded lettuce, you achieve a perfect flavor profile that your palate will enjoy with every bite. Many enthusiasts will tell you that an Italian sub is often better thirty minutes after it’s prepared, as the bread absorbs the dressing and the meats soften slightly.
The Italian sub remains a timeless classic because it prioritizes the most important rule of food: every single ingredient has a job to do, and together, they work perfectly. This is one of my favorite subs.
Steak and Cheese Sub
The steak and cheese sub is more than just a sandwich; it is a masterclass in texture, flavor, and pure, unadulterated comfort.
The secret to a great cheese steak sub lies in the interplay of textures. The bread provides a satisfying, slightly crispy exterior that gives way to a soft, pillowy center. Inside, the steak—often flash-seared to achieve a caramelized, savory crust—pairs perfectly with the creamy, rich profile of melted cheese. Whether it’s sharp, provolone, mild American, or gooey mozzarella, the cheese acts as the binder, pulling every element into a cohesive, indulgent bite.
Part of the enduring appeal is its versatility. While the foundation is simple, the sub serves as a perfect canvas. From the addition of sauteed onions and peppers (the classic "Philly style") to the inclusion of mushrooms, hot cherry peppers, or a swipe of mayonnaise, it is a meal that can be tailored to individual tastes while maintaining its mouth watering yum. This is my second favorite sub.
Onions Rings
A properly cooked onion ring offers a satisfying golden-brown crunch the moment you bite into it. Immediately giving way to the tender, sweet, and savory onion center. This interplay between the crispy exterior and the soft interior creates a flavor experience that is far more engaging than eating a french fry.
Additionally, the batter acts as a flavor vehicle. Whether it is a light tempura style, a thick beer-based coating, or a classic breadcrumb crust, the batter provides the "crunch factor" and carries spices—like garlic powder, paprika, or cracked black pepper—that elevate the simple onion into a crave-able comfort food.
In a world of complex culinary trends, the onion ring remains a triumph of simplicity—an elegant, crunchy, and savory reminder that sometimes, the best things in life are simply battered, fried, and served hot.
Soft Pretzel
There is something undeniably comforting about a soft pretzel. Whether you are grabbing one from a bustling city street cart, a stadium kiosk, or a local bakery, these twisted knots of dough possess a unique charm that transcends mere snacking.
It offers the quintessential contrast that food lovers crave: a thin, darkened, slightly crisp or super soft exterior giving way to a soft, chewy, and airy interior. This experience makes every bite very satisfying.
There are so many flavors and styles of soft pretzels out there I'm not even gonna try to name them all. What I can say is that my favorite way to eat plain soft pretzels is to break them into bite size pieces then dip the pieces in mustard, peanut butter, melted cheese, melted chocolate, hummus, etc. Soft pretzels embedded with thinly sliced jalapeno pieces are yum for me. You need to go to a farmer's market, flea market, or a commercial pretzel retail to get those yummy's.
Ultimately, the love for the soft pretzel comes down to its simplicity. It is an unpretentious, balanced, and deeply satisfying indulgence that proves that sometimes, the best things in life are simply dough, heat, and a pinch of salt.
